Aesthetic Medicine

Aesthetic  medicine involves the use of minimally invasive cosmetic treatments to  enhance the satisfaction of patients with their physical appearance.  Classically aesthetic medicine involves treating wrinkles with Botox and  dermal fillers. However, at Chadds Ford Wellness we are one of the only  centers on the east coast that can combine dermal fillers with platelet  rich plasma (PRP) to not only further enhance ones appearance, but to  provide longer lasting treatment effects than Botox and fillers alone.

We  are also one of the only regenerative medicine practices on the east  coast using PRP that
actually counts the amount of platelets in your blood draw. By doing  so, we can adjust the amount
of platelets that we use during your treatment to ensure an optimal result.

Another  important and unique aspect of our approach to aesthetic medicine at  Chadds Ford Wellness is the use of age management medicine to further  enhance the effects of traditional aesthetic medicine treatments. We can  not only help you be happier with the way you look, but we can also get  to the root cause by combining bio-identical hormone replacement  therapy along with your aesthetic procedures. Restoring your hormones to  optimal levels will enhance the benefits of facial rejuvenation and  hair restoration.

Additionally, aesthetic medicine involves the use of lasers, chemical peels, and microdermabrasion to
improve the appearance of ones skin as well as reduce or eliminate scarring from acne, age spots,
liver spots, etc. At Chadds Ford Wellness we can also perform laser hair removal for unwanted facial
and body hair. In addition, the cause of unwanted facial hair is often due to a common but often
unrecognized medical condition in women called polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS). This can be
the  root cause of treatment resistant acne, hirsutism (excess hair growth),  and alopecia (hair loss of the scalp). We at Chadds Ford Wellness are  experts at treating PCOS medically to eliminate your body’s chemical  influence causing these cosmetic issues. We then use aesthetic medicine  to reduce the effects and improve our patients’ appearance.

Botox and Dysport Injections

Wrinkles are often caused by facial expressions. You may notice wrinkles that are only present with movement of your facial muscles. These are called dynamic wrinkles. As we age, these wrinkles may be noticed without any facial movement, indicating static wrinkles. Botulinum toxin injections, including Botox and Dysport, are used to temporarily paralyze facial muscles to reduce movement, and thus, wrinkles. Botox is indicated for the temporary improvement of moderate to severe crow’s feet and frown lines between the eyebrows (glabella) in adults. Dysport is indicated for treatment of moderate to severe frown lines in the glabellar area in people under the age of 65 years old. Both have been used off-label for years in the treatment of facial wrinkles.

Injections take 3-7 days to take effect. Results last anywhere from 3-6 months. Lines and wrinkles will diminish over time with continued use as your facial muscles are trained to relax. The amount of product needed to offer an optimal result varies from patient to patient. The price per patient will depend on the amount of product used.

Dermal Filler Injections

As we age, facial wrinkles continue to worsen due to the redistribution of facial fat, bone loss throughout the face, muscle laxity, and external factors such as smoking and sun damage. Wrinkles can become static and even cause scarring over time. Dermal fillers are used to correct these issues by lifting wrinkles and folds and adding volume when necessary. These injections consist of a clear gel called hyaluronic acid, which is also found in the body. Your body will eventually break this down and it will be absorbed. Results are seen immediately and last 6 to 12 months, depending on the area treated.

Facial PRP

Facial platelet rich plasma (PRP) is considered a “facial rejuvenation” procedure and should not be  compared to Botox or fillers. It is used to reduce fine lines and wrinkles by increasing the collagen content in one’s skin, which decreases as we age. PRP works best in those who have something to repair, such as deep lines and static wrinkles. This procedure may also be used as an anti-aging
prophylactic, preventative treatment in patients who do not have deep or static wrinkles. Results can be seen anywhere from 8-12 weeks after treatment. The effects from one PRP treatment can last anywhere from 10-12 months.

Microneedling  is an effective, versatile, cost effective treatment of collagen  enhancement therapy (CET). By rolling over your skin with hundreds of  tiny needles, forming small channels in the skin, we can infuse your  platelet rich plasma into the six layers of your skin. This accelerates  the wound-healing cascade in the face, causing skin remodeling and  promoting new collagen formation. In comparison to laser re-surfacing  treatments, microneedling causes fast healing with minimal risks.  Collagen enhancement therapy, including facial PRP and microneedling, is  an effective adjunctive treatment to tone skin, reduce acne scarring,  stretch marks, fine lines, and to reduce the dimpling appearance of  cellulite. This can be done alone or in conjunction with PRP injections.

The  facial PRP process starts by drawing your blood. Then, one of our  medical assistants processes your blood in the lab, which takes  approximately 45 minutes. While your platelets are being processed, we  apply a numbing cream to your face to make the procedure more  comfortable for  you. This  cream consists of benzocaine, lidocaine, and tetrocaine. If you  are allergic to any  of these, please let us know prior to your procedure. After your PRP is  prepared, it is  injected into your fine lines and wrinkles with small needles. Then, the rest of  your PRP  is painted  onto your face before and after a microneedling roller is used to  infuse the PRP into your skin and to cause redness and inflammation in order  to begin the healing process. Lastly, a cooling collagen mask is placed  over your face to help hydrate and nourish your skin. You can rinse your  face after the procedure but should not use face wash until the  following day to avoid risk of infection. Finally, specific  nutraceutical creams are used for several weeks after your procedure to  further enhance the recovery and healing of your skin.
